Harris County is the most populous county in Texas and the third-most populous county in the United States. In July 2017, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated Harris County’s population to be 4.6 million, which represents approximately 16% of Texas’s population.

There are eleven (11) district courts in Harris county dedicated to handling family law cases. Each of the 11 courts have both a Presiding Judge and an Associate judge. There are four (4) IV D courts that primarily hear attorney general cases involving child support and child support enforcements cases. There is also a Child Protection Court that handles CPS cases and three juvenile courts that sometimes handle family law related cases.

There are twenty-five (25) Civil District Courts that handle a variety of civil matters. There is a special Tax Master Court that handles foreclosure tax cases on assignment from other district courts.
